For your PC
e-Sword: http://www.e-sword.net/ Download the Application and some of the many Bible translations and the Commentaries and the Dictionaries. Graphics, "Extras" and Devotions are also available.
Most of this is available for free; just the free parts are an overwhelmingly great set of resources. Additional Copyrighted material is available for purchase.
For your iPhone or iPod Touch or iPad:
TouchBible http://www.touchbible.org/ The free version is excellent. You can "spin" the wheels to quickly find any Book, Chapter and Verse. Or use the search feature. If you like it and want a few frills, or the complete Strong's dictionary or to show the author your appreciation, buy the "Loaded" version for about $5.
With either version five good translations are available including the execelent modern "NET" and the classic "KJV". NIV is missing probably due to Copyright. If you miss this or other translations try the next app...
You Version Holy Bible http://www.youversion.com/mobile/iphone This app makes many translations available, easily readable/browsable/searchable in several languages, including the NIV and the Holman Christian Standard (HCSB). There are eight downloadable English translations, including ASV, NET, NKJV. But most of the other translations are only available "online" -- you must be in a WiFi hotspot or on your iPhone data plan to read those.
There are several other free Bible reader apps available for iPhone/iPod, as well as more general purpose eBook readers for which you can obtain various versions of the Bible and other Christian writings. Just visit the iTunes "App store". For general book reading I recommend Stanza and eReader - there are many free public domain books available (mostly classics) - and matching software for your PC.
Other "mobile devices", including Blackberry, Android, PalmPre, JavaME, etc.
You Version http://www.youversion.com/mobile I assume these are similar to the YouVersion iPhone application.
